What I ate: Pei Wei Spicy Shrimp
How to order it: When placing your order, ask to see the Gluten-Free recommendations. The cashier will present you with a shorter menu of items that do not contain wheat, barley, rye, or oats. Notice when an item has a special notation next to it such as “order without Thai peanut sauce.” Place your order, asking for the Gluten-Free version of that item.
If you would like extra soy sauce for your dish, just ask. They have individual packets of certified Gluten Free Soy Sauce (San-J Organic Tamari) behind the register.
What it looks like:
Pei Wei Spicy Shrimp with brown rice. One of Pei Wei’s Signature Dishes, this comes with your choice of shrimp or chicken on white or brown rice. The blend of chile vinegar sauce, scallions, garlic, carrots, and peas-in-the-pod wakes up your taste buds. The shrimp are lightly battered (with potato starch) then seared. I couldn’t determine whether the temperature of the dish or the spiciness of the chile peppers was hotter. Verdict still undecided. I’ll just have to order it again!
