Update: While the Raleigh location has closed, there are still locations in Durham (Erwin Road) as well as locations in Elon and Greenville, NC. Visit their website for a list of their local community partnerships.
Where: Local Yogurt, North Ridge Center, 6106 Falls of the Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC 27609
GF Menu: No; however, this sign posted outside the establishment caught my attention as I walked through North Ridge Center. It means that their yogurt is Certified Gluten-Free and Kosher!
What I ate: Small Plain Yogurt topped with blueberries, strawberries, and peaches – at our friendly server Rachel’s recommendation.
How to order it: Walk up to the counter to choose a flavor of the day. Plain yogurt will always be one of your options.
Toppings: Fresh fruit toppings will be safe and delicious for GF diners. Many of these are locally-grown and unsweetened.
As for other toppings, such as granola, candies, etc., ask the server whether these items are Gluten-Free. The Local Yogurt website mentions that the LoYo Durham location offers GF Granola from Custom Choice Cereal, another locally owned business.
What it looks like:
Since returning home, I have missed the taste of the frozen yogurt served at the popular and beloved Berry Line in Cambridge, MA. Then I found Local Yogurt in Raleigh. Now my foodie home is complete. Thank you, LoYo!
You can’t see the yogurt in the photo because LoYo is very generous with their toppings! This yogurt can stand alone, but with fruit, it’s taken to another level of dreaminess. This is not your average Frozen Yogurt. A bit more like Greek yogurt in taste, it is a little tart and exceedingly delicious.
Green Note: Notice the container in the photo above. This is a biodegradable, compostable bowl. Want to order some of these for your own business or event? There are many companies producing responsible food service items (dishes, cups, cutlery, etc.). One of my favorites is World Centric, as they donate 25% of their profits to grass roots social and environmental organizations.
This LoYo location also promotes local honey from NC Certified Beekeeper father-daughter team, Al and Sarah Pleasants, of The Pleasant Bee company in Raleigh, NC.
