FRESH Local Ice Cream: The Hormone-Free Scoop

Where: FRESH Local Ice Cream, 6603 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC, 27612

GF Menu: No.

What I ate: Chocolate Orange ice cream in a cup. I also purchased a 1/2 gallon bottle of hormone-free 2% milk and butter to take home.

How to order it: Select an ice cream flavor from the chalkboard, then ask the server whether it is Gluten-Free. A majority of the current flavors are GF, with the exception of the more obvious ones such as Cookie Dough. With delectable options like Honey Toasted Almond, Double Chocolate, and Banana, you won’t even miss the dough.

What it looks like:

One evening, I stopped by FRESH for dessert. This chocolate ice cream was wonderfully dark, creamy, and rich. It was similar to FRESH’s double chocolate flavor, but this version had an extra bit of delicate orange essence in each bite.

Green Note: Here are just some of the ways that FRESH is green:

1. Their milk, butter, and ice cream are all natural, hormone-free, and come from Carolina Dairy Farms in central North Carolina.

2. The chilled milk is sold in glass bottles. When you purchase one of their 1/2 gallons of milk, you can return the bottle to FRESH for re-use.

3. FRESH is a walk-up ice cream stand located in the Oak Park Shopping Center off Glenwood Avenue. All seating is outdoors and on park benches. It’s common to see a long line of eager customers in the summertime. Regulars still visit even when it’s cold out.

Once you’ve tasted FRESH, you’ll be back!
