Tupelo’s: Creole Jambalaya (Now CLOSED)

June 2013 Update: Both Yelp and Urbanspoon have confirmed that this restaurant is closed.

Where: Tupelo’s Restaurant, Hillsborough, NC – regional, Southern cuisine with a Creole accent.

GF Menu: No. However, all dishes are made-to-order.

What I ate: Jambalaya + Flourless Chocolate Torte

How to order it: When ordering a rice dish, it is a good idea to inquire about the broth in which the rice has been cooked. Many broths contain soy sauce. The second ingredient in a majority of soy sauces is (you guessed it) wheat.

After the server checked with the kitchen, I ordered this Jambalaya. It was warm in both temperature and taste, with just enough spicy kick to help shake off any winter chill.

What it looks like:

Gulf shrimp, andouille sausage and chicken, tossed with peppers, tomatoes, and garlic, creole seasoning, and rice. Garnished with fresh scallions.

Chocolate Decadence – rich, fudge-like, flourless chocolate cake.

Green Note: Tupelo’s uses fresh, seasonal ingredients. They also have beers on tap, requiring fewer bottles.
