Zest: Out of the Blue

Where: Zest Cafe & Home Art, Raleigh, NC

GF Menu: No.

What I ate: Grilled salmon filet on mixed greens with black mission figs, fresh pears, goat cheese, and toasted walnuts with raspberry balsamic vinaigrette.

How to order it: This menu item is currently one of their “Mains”, but it traditionally contains blue cheese. Some types of blue cheese contain gluten. When I mentioned that I was Gluten-Free, the server (who was very knowledgeable about GF dietary restrictions) told me that the kitchen could substitute another cheese. I opted for the goat cheese.

What it looks like:

The still-warm, grilled select salmon arrives on a bed of hand-picked greens. This salad is a kaleidoscope of textures – crunchy walnuts, crispy pears, and creamy cheese. I thought I’d use just a little bit of the dressing on my salad, but it was so light and…well…zesty! I cleaned out the little ramekin!

Green Note: Zest uses locally-grown produce. They also sell many local and eco-friendly products in their store. Check out the purses made of recycled cans and picture frames made of recycled newspapers.
