Azitra: Taking the Spice Route

Where: Azitra Indian Restaurant, Raleigh, Brier Creek, NC

GF Menu: No. The server, however, informed me that only the appetizers on this menu contain any wheat. You may want to check to be certain in case menu items change, but the prospect of choosing anything from the entree list was liberating!

What I ate: I shared two lunch specials of Karara Chicken Tikka and Ajwaini Shrimp + hot cup of chai.

How to order it: The lunch specials come with a fresh and colorful side salad and naan. Pass on the naan. Azitra served a hearty bowl of rice with these dishes, so I did not miss the bread.

What it looks like:

Chicken Tikka and Ajwani Shrimp with rice. These came to the table piping hot and each of the ingredients tasted fresh. We opted for “Medium Hot”, which provided a mild heat. On my next visit, I’ll take it up a notch. The side salad was also aesthetically pleasing and was topped with a gorgeously tart dressing.

Green Note: Azitra’s portion sizes are perfect. We cleaned our plates. There is probably very little waste for them to dispose of at each table. Even at lunch, the tablecloths, china, and utensils are all washable. They also have a charming outdoor dining area, so you can enjoy the tastes al fresco when the weather is a bit warmer.
