Michael Dean’s: Mahi-Mahi (Now CLOSED)

June 2013 Update: This location of Michael Dean’s has closed.

Where: Michael Dean’s Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar, Raleigh, NC

GF Menu: No.

What I ate: Cajun Mahi with Chipotle Cheddar Polenta cakes, Avocado Salad, and Salsa Fresco

How to order it: Ask the server whether the fish is breaded and whether the polenta cake mix contains any gluten. Our personable server, Dede Hickman, checked with the chef and assured me this dish was Gluten Free. Since recipes may change daily, it’s always a good idea to check ingredients with each visit to a restaurant.

What it looks like:

Pan-seared Mahi-Mahi with spicy cajun seasoning. Our server warned me that the seasoning had a strong kick, and to my delight, it was true! Between the spices on the fish and the chipotle polenta cake underneath, this dish packed a satisfying punch. The mountain of fresh avocado, containing red onions and red peppers, topped it perfectly.

Green Note: Michael Dean’s features several local seafood items on their menu. At the time of this post, they offered scallops from the NC Coast and oysters from the Cape Fear River.
